Reflexology

Foot and Hand Reflexology is based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all body parts. The physical act of applying specific pressures using thumb, finger and hand techniques results in stress reduction, causing a physiological change in the body.
History of Reflexology
Although this natural healing technique has only recently gained recognition in North America, it has actually been around for centuries. When mankind went barefoot, walking on sand or uneven ground was a partial reflexology treatment. There is recorded evidence that the ancient Egyptians and Chinese practiced a form of reflexology before 2,330 BC.

The North American pioneer for reflexology was Dr. William Fitzgerald, MD., an ear-nose-throat specialist in Connecticut. In 1913, he became interested in zone therapy, the practice of alleviating pressure on specific parts of the body.

Foot Reflexology Chart Why Reflexology?
When we don't handle stress well, the body's defences breakdown and we become more susceptible to illness. Stress and tension tighten up the cardiovascular system and restrict blood flow. By reducing stress and tension, Reflexology allows the cardiovascular vessels to conduct the flow of blood naturally and easily.

Nervous people pace back and forth; wring their hands; rub hands together; bite their nails and some even handle worry beads and/or rocks. Unknowingly they are relieving tensions by working the reflexes. Reflexology is a systematic method of removing stress which aids in the maintenance of optimal health.

What is a treatment like?
A reflexology session is like receiving a soothing, pampering expert foot massage. No disrobing is necessary. Both patient and reflexologist must be positioned comfortably to ensure maximum relaxation. Usually, a reclining position is preferred by the patient. A reflexologist will generally work on the bare feet, but if this is not possible, the treatment can be given on the hands.

Can reflexology make a condition worse?
No. Reflexology helps nature to normalize body functions. It is a safe, effective way to better health.
